Ko Yao Yai Thailand

Ko Yao Yai is the biggest island in the Ko Yao Archipelago. The group of islands sits in Phang Nga Bay in Phang Nga Province. Ko Yao Yai means “big long island”. The other main island in the group is Ko Yao Noi, meaning “little long island”, which lies to the north of Ko Yao Yai, separated from it by a narrow channel. Ko Yao Yai has a population of about 8,000, while Ko Yao Noi has around 4,500 residents. Most of the people living on the islands are Sunni Muslims. The total area of the archipelago is 137.6 km².
