The Galapagos Islands Ecuador

The Galápagos is an archipelago located about 1,000 km off the coast of Ecuador in the Pacific Ocean. The archipelago is made up of 13 main islands and 6 smaller islets. Santa Cruz is the most important island in the Galápagos and is home to Puerto Ayora, the largest town in the archipelago, with the most developed tourist accommodation and facilities. Because of its isolated location, the islands are home to many native species. They are volcanic in origin, and some still have active volcanoes. Most of the Galápagos Islands are protected as a National Park or Marine Reserve. The archipelago is world‑famous for its unique and remarkably tame wildlife, making it a dream destination for anyone with even a passing interest in animals.
