Puerto Baquerizo Moreno Ecuador

Puerto Baquerizo Moreno is the capital of Galápagos Province in Ecuador. It sits on the southwestern coast of San Cristóbal, the easternmost island in the archipelago, and is also the capital of San Cristóbal Canton. Founded in the mid-19th century by General Villamil Playas, it is named after President Alfredo Baquerizo (1859–1951). Today, fishing is the main livelihood for local people, but tourism is steadily growing along the seafront, with many hotels and shops. The town is known for Galápagos sea lions, which can often be seen resting on park benches and along the waterfront. Puerto Baquerizo Moreno has a cathedral, post office, police station, hospital, and a campus of Universidad San Francisco de Quito. The town also hosts the Interpretation Centre of the Galápagos National Park, established in 1988, as well as a natural history museum. It is served by San Cristóbal Airport, with flights connecting to mainland Ecuador.
